The life Science Congress

Background:

The first and second editions of the Life Science YT Congress were held in September 2022 and March 2023 at the facilities of Yachay Tech University. This first edition was attended by around 120 people and the objective was met that students from the different careers of the University and professionals present the research work in which they were doing, these projects being curricular works of the various subjects or degree projects. The event lasted 2 days, where we had the participation of national and international speakers for the keynote talks; and around 60 poster presentations by students from the University and outside it. Likewise, there was the collaboration of several clubs and organizations who contributed with the logistics, dissemination of the event, etc. In addition, there was the support of sponsors who awarded prizes to the best presenters in each of the categories handled. The second edition was welcomed by more than 300 attendees from all regions of the country, we have the sponsorship of entities and companies that normally collaborate with the ECBI, in this congress 200 works were received, including oral presentations and posters.

Justification:

The creation of knowledge in students and researchers is an important pillar for the fulfillment of the mission of Higher Education Institutions, which in essence is to promote fundamental research, stimulate basic knowledge and curricular flexibility, give value and reward academic and research excellence. In addition, entering the world of scientific research stimulates critical thinking, creativity and vitalizes the learning process.

In this context, within the life sciences there are different disciplines that, together, help scientific progress from more specific perspectives. On the one hand, biomedicine makes it possible to develop cutting-edge technologies in health care and therapy, through research in biomaterials, biophysics, biomechanics, bioartificial tissues and organs. Cellular, molecular, and genetic biology focus on the study of processes at the cellular and molecular level of biological processes for their application in immunotherapy, pharmacology, or toxicology. In the case of microbiology, the study of microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi allows us to learn more about their characteristics and possible applications in fields such as medicine and environmental remediation. Finally, ecology allows us to apply useful strategies for environmental conservation, the adequate allocation of natural resources, and energy conservation, through studies of biodiversity, biogeography, ecosystem services, and conservation biology.

On the other hand, the dissemination of scientific knowledge through webinars, poster presentations, and other dissemination spaces allow both students and researchers to know, compare, question, and interpret research results of interest, which allows the emergence of new ideas, studies, and collaborative projects. For this reason, it is proposed to organize the Life Science YT Congress 2025 event, which aims to present new knowledge in the different branches of biology, biomedical engineering and related, both to university students and professionals interested in these areas; through the presentation of keynote talks, oral presentations and posters where the results of research work are presented.
