Biografía
Juan Pablo Saucedo Vázquez obtained a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Prof. Martha Sosa group, UNAM, México) and in 2012 focused on the study of reaction mechanism of the oxidative dehydrogenation of amines activated by iron(III) in coordination compounds. In 2015 Professor Saucedo made a Postdoctoral Research at the Cellular Physiology Institute of UNAM (Prof. Wilhelm Hansberg group) on the study of the redox and spectroscopic properties of the bifunctional enzyme catalase-peroxidase CAT-2 from Neurospora crassa fungi. In 2015 he was honored as a member of the National Research System level 1 (CONACyT-México) as recognition of his career.
Summary of Interests
My research interests span the study of the activation of small inorganic molecules such as O2, N2, H2O2, NO, by inorganic and biological systems containing iron and/or copper metals as active center. I
have a special interest in metallo-proteins of natural origin (fungi, plants, bacteria) with metal cofactors and the use of spectro-electrochemistry techniques and the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy to characterize these systems.
Current Research Projects
Small molecules activation: ferryl (FeIV=O) and ferroyl (FeV=O) key intermediates in the activation of dioxygen by iron in biological and synthetic systems.
