Biografía

Biography

Jorge Iglesias Flores graduated as a Geological Engineer from the Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Ecuador. He obtained a M.Sc. in Earth Sciences (Magmas & Volcanoes) from Université Clermont Auvergne, France (2020–2022), and earned his PhD in Earth Sciences from Université de Lille, France.

He has conducted geological fieldwork, structural analysis, and systematic sampling in mountainous regions, combined with petrographic characterization and lithogeochemical analyses. His research includes zircon petrochronology, U–Pb geochronology using LA-ICP-MS, and Hf–O isotope analysis in zircon. He also integrates geochemical and geochronological datasets for tectonic modeling of magmatic arcs. In addition, he has laboratory experience in rock dissolution in clean labs, chromatographic separation of Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes, and preparation of samples for TIMS and MC-ICP-MS analyses. He has also worked in geological mapping, hydrothermal alteration studies, and mineral exploration campaigns.

Research Interests

Jorge’s research focuses on tectono-magmatic evolution of continental arcs, igneous petrology, magma geochemistry, and Andean geodynamics. His work integrates geochemical, geochronological, and structural datasets to understand crustal growth, magma sources, and tectonic evolution of the Northern Andes. He is also interested in zircon petrochronology, isotope geochemistry, geological mapping, and regional tectonic reconstruction.
