Biografía
From 2009 Gema Gonzalez was the Head of the Materials Engineering Center at the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), where she was a full researcher. She was also a professor of the physics department at Central University of Venezuela and Prometeo Researcher at the Physics department, Polytechnic Nacional School (EPN), Quito. Currently she is prof. At the Physics and Nanotechnology Dpt. Yachay. She obtained her DIC, MSc and PhD in Materials Science at Imperial College London. She was a Research Fellow at Bristol University, in the microstructure group, Wills Physics Lab., and a visiting professor at the National Center for Electron Microscopy, at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab., Univ Berkeley.
Gema is specialist in nano and biomaterials for different applications. Her trajectory related to synthesis and structural characterization of Nanostructures is substantiated by more than 150 publications in the field. She was the president of the Nanotechnology network in Venezuela and secretary and president of the Interamerican committee of electron microscopy societies (CIASEM). She is Editor in chief of the Journal Acta Microscopica and one of the Regional Associate Editors of Microscopy and Microanalysis. Her research interests are in the synthesis and applications of nanostructured materials, especially biomedical applications and their structural characterization by XRD and imaging characterization (High resolution TEM, Analytical Electron Microscopy, SEM, Fluorescence Microscopy, Scanning Probe Microscopy).
