Carlos Loyo

Coordinador de la Maestría en Ingeniería de Materiales

Biografía

Professor Carlos Loyo was born in Ibarra, Ecuador. He obtained his degree in Chemical Engineering from Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN) of Ecuador in 2015. Seeking to broaden his academic horizons, he started his postgraduate studies at the University of Santiago de Chile in 2018. There, he specialized in materials science and engineering. In 2022, he obtained his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences, mention in Materials Science and Engineering, approved with the highest distinction. Throughout his doctoral journey, he dedicated his research efforts to pioneering biomaterials, particularly in the synthesis and characterization of polycaprolactone and graphene oxide biomaterials with gelatin coating aimed at tissue regeneration applications. Following his doctoral success, he continued as a postdoctoral researcher at the same institution, spearheading projects centered on developing biomaterials using natural polymers via electrospinning techniques.

In 2022, He decided to move to Ibarra, Ecuador, driven by a desire to contribute to Ecuador’s academic and scientific advancement. Currently, he works as a professor and researcher at the School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering at Yachay Tech University, where he teaches courses in Chemistry and Materials Engineering programs.

His research interests encompass the synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials, the innovation of advanced biomaterials, the production of novel biodegradable materials, and the thermal and mechanical characterizations of materials. His work seeks an interdisciplinary approach and contribution to the progress of science and technology in Ecuador and abroad.
