Biografía

Andrés Rosales Acosta obtained his PhD in Control Systems Engineering from the National University of San Juan, Argentina and B.E. in Electronics and Control at the National Polytechnic School – EPN, Ecuador. He was a visiting researcher at the University of Hannover, Germany.

 

Currently, he is Rector of Yachay Tech University. He was Head of Department of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at EPN (2022), where he also served as Director of the Doctoral Program in Electrical Engineering (2018-2022), and Coordinator of the Master of Research in Electronics and Automation (2021-2022). He was Faculty Representative before the Polytechnic Council (2018-2021).

He has also held different positions that include:

  • Founder and first president (Chair) of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), Ecuador Chapter
  • Director of Research and Social Projection of the EPN (2015 and 2017)
  • General Technical Coordinator of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Council -CEAACES (2014)
  • Editor of the Polytechnic Magazine (2012-2013)
  • General Coordinator and Research Coordinator of the Ecuadorian Network of Universities and Polytechnic Schools – REDU (2012-2013)
  • FIRST Secretary of the Embassy of Ecuador in Spain (2016), among others.
  • Since 2011 he has been Principal Professor of the Department of Automation and Industrial Control of the EPN and is a Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
  • He is the author of more than 70 papers and scientific articles.
  • His areas of interest are robotic systems, industrial process control, advanced control, precision agriculture, biomechanical systems and cooperative systems.

He has taught doctoral-level courses of Advanced Mathematics, Scientific Research Methodology, Robot Control, Nonlinear Control, Advanced Process Control, among others. At the master’s level, he has taught Predictive and Optimal Control, Robotics, Mechatronic Systems, among others. While at the undergraduate level he has taught Automatic Control Systems, Modern Control, Industrial Process Control, Plant Synthesis, Fundamentals of Electrical Circuits, among others.

He has also taught classes as a fixed-term part-time professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE) and the Technical University of Ambato (UTA).
