Authorities and guests gave welcome words during Convocation Day.
Yachay Tech held its Convocation Day event on August 20, 2018. Rector Eduardo Ludeña, Ph.D; Mg. Lorena Zeggane, Zonal Coordinator 1 and 2 of SENESCYT; and Jordy Cevallos, student representative, participated in the event. Mike Giles, renowned scientist and researcher from Oxford University, was also present as guest speaker. The event took place on campus and sought to welcome leveling students who will begin their semester on September 17, 2018.
During the event, Rector Dr. Eduardo Ludeña highlighted the main purpose of the University: to do scientific research. Mg. Lorena Zeggane, on her part, assured the support of the governing bodies towards the University and valued the work of the Institution in favor of higher education. Lastly, Jordy Cevallos highlighted the challenges that the University faces and what the staff and students do to overcome them.
Professor Giles gave a speech on the interdisciplinary journey that an academic and researcher must embark on throughout their career, citing his very own experience as an example. The English scientist mentioned the importance of keeping an open profile and adapting the knowledge gained from one field into different applications. The distinguished guest, who specializes in the construction of aircraft engines, and whose visit was managed by Andreas Griewank, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences and Information Technology, also directed a workshop on CUDA programming, aimed at researchers, academics and students from all over the country.
Upon closing of the event, attendees visited a poster session where students and faculty had the opportunity to present their most recent research work. The posters included four that were dedicated to the lines of applied research that the University is implementing. The poster session will be open to the public until August 31, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, at the University Library.
