Nine students helped out at Yachay EP’s La Guarida dog shelter
On Wednesday, December 20, students performed community work at Yachay EP’s La Guarida dog shelter. The community work performed benefited 15 dogs that are currently living at the shelter. This volunteering activity was organized by the Animal Welfare Club.
The Transportation Department pitched in by arranging transportation to the shelter, where all the activities were to take place. First, students fed the dogs and cleaned common areas and then they took them for walks.
Before embarking in this activity, the Animal Welfare Club requested donations from students, faculty, and administrative staff. This resulted in the collection of money, which was used to purchase food and cleaning supplies to help improve the quality of life of the dogs housed in La Guarida. Donations were made in the same kind of materials too. All donations were received by Sandra Escanta, Yachay EP’s delegate in charge of urban fauna.
Michelle Sánchez García, the student in charge of managing the activity, thanked the faculty, students, and administrative staff who contributed to its realization. La Guarida is open to the public for visits, where you will be able to spend time with the dogs housed there.
