Yachay Tech University, in compliance with the Organic Law of Transparency and Access to Public Information, presented the annual report for the period 2015 last March 23th, 2016.
Jose Andrade, Academic and Innovation Secretary of the Board of Trustees, unveiled the objectives achieved, reflected in the hiring of academic authorities, creation of research projects, partnerships, recruitment of more students, innovation of processes and administrative efficiency.
Some of the most outstanding achievements include the hiring of six world-renowned authorities, including 4 deans and 2 Vice-Chancellors, the growth of the student population from 408 to 742 students from 24 provinces, and the recruitment of professors, all with PhDs, resulting in an academic staff comprised of 45 professionals.
In research, the university had 43 indexed publications, implemented 94 new research projects, presented 32 conferences on science and technology taught by distinguished international guests, took the general direction of the Andean Network of Sustainable Development of the United Nations along with the Earth Institute at Columbia University in the US, and managed the creation of more than 30 projects of innovation and entrepreneurship presented by students during “Innovation Day”.
In addition, strategic alliances were signed with Schlumberger, Petroamazonas EP, Halliburton and Enami EP to introduce technology knowledge in areas of hydrocarbons, minerals and derivatives. Also, a cooperation agreement was signed with the Polytechnic School of Litoral (ESPOL) to create fourth level programs and to implement joint research projects.
In order to follow up on the agreement signed with the local government of Urcuquí and as improving the quality of life of the people in Imbabura is one of the most important goals of Yachay Tech, the university trained 550 local students for the National Examination for Higher Education, becoming one of the best universities in the country.
In 2016 the Board of Trustees and the new authorities of the University will continue to work on the creation of Ph.D. programs, finishing research laboratories, the consolidation of the Technology Transfer Center and the economic sustainability of Yachay Tech.
