This event was held on February 13, 2023, and began at 09:00 a.m. at the university facilities (Senescyt building) in the Urcuquí canton. It was organized by various public and private institutions, such as the Ministry of Education, UNESCO, the Women’s Association of Yachay Tech University, the Foundation of the Americas (FUDELA), UNHCR-ANHCR Women, ACS Student Chapter, Yachay Tech Chemistry Club, ConCiencia Warmi Yachay, and Optica Yachay Tech Student Chapter.
The event was attended by 7th and 12th grade students of different schools from Imbabura. Attendees were able to participate in talks, visits to the laboratories, campus tours and conversations with prominent women from the country, as well as scientific forums with university professors.
The objective of the event was to raise awareness of the gender gap in science through scientific dissemination and the promotion of spaces of trust that motivate the community and promote the empowerment of women and girls. This is not only essential for the economic development of the world, but also for progress against the goals and targets of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
Science and gender equality are vital to move towards a research culture in our country. Yachay Tech University has made a great effort to create spaces for empowerment that allow women and girls to achieve full and equal access and participation in science, which is key in moving towards a safe future for humanity.
