A cooperation between the University and Senescyt will allow teachers from different schools to be trained in the domains of knowledge for the Ser Bachiller exam.
The Zonal Coordinations 1 and 2 of the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt), with the support of Yachay Tech University, gave training sessions for teachers of public schools in Imbabura. The training sessions were aimed at going in depth into the 5 domains tested in the Ser Bachiller exam (mathematics, linguistics, science, social sciences and aptitudes). The Yachay Tech faculty worked particularly on the mathematics and linguistics domains. The training sessions were held from May 7 to May 11, between 14h30 and 18h00 at the former SECAP facilities.
During the first day, Yachay Tech faculty performed a diagnosis amongst the teachers. This helped to design their plan to cover all the points that the teachers were having the most difficulties with. Once the training sessions were finished, the Yachay Tech faculty presented an initiative to establish a mathematics network. The network proposes to have Yachay Tech faculty and students, whom along with teachers from schools, will work together in developing support material through an IT platform.
PhD Julio Armas, who was in charge of the Mathematics domain in the training sessions, pointed out that the School of Mathematical Sciences and Information Technology has a great desire for cooperation in matters of community outreach. Thus, fellow faculty members from the same School Jose Soto, PhD, and Juan Mayorga, PhD, supported him. They all have plenty of experience in trainings on teaching mathematics.
Likewise, the trained teachers were receptive and participatory. For Hector Quiña, mathematics teacher at Unidad Educativa Páramos, these training sessions have allowed them to find new techniques to teach mathematics. He insists in highlighting the commitment that the Yachay Tech Faculty has shown and the positive answer that the teachers have had. He hopes to immediately implement in his classroom the knowledge acquired.
