Santiago Tirira, cyclist, and Alexander Tipán, athlete, finished first in more than three competitions.
Santiago Tirira and Alexander Tipán, students of Yachay Tech University, were both part of the winning team at the Reto Sol Pasto triathlon, in the sprint relay category. The event took place in Carchi and was organized by TEAM IRONMAN CARCHI, the Sports Federation of Carchi, and the Montufar Municipality. In addition, it had the technical and logistical support of the Sports Federation of Carchi. The competition was held on June 10, 2018, in the surroundings of El Salado Lake, in Montufar.
Both Yachay Tech students competed along with Franklin Farinango, an athlete from Ibarra who took over the swimming category, swimming a distance of 750mts. Santiago did the biking part of the competition, with a distance of 20 km, whereas Alexander did the walking part, with a distance of 5 km. During the award ceremony, the team received commemorative medals for their participation, an economic reward and a free registration to the Iron Man competition to be held in December.
Both students stood out in other sports events in July and August as well. Santiago won first place in the Medifer 3-stage cycling race. He also won first place in the Tsio Kucha duathlon that took place in the Cotacachi-Cayapas Reserve for their 50th anniversary. Alexander, on his part, won first place in the Ruta del Cuero, a 5k in Cotacachi, and Llanti-Valle, a 10k in Salgoquí, Quito.
