More than 70% of the student population participated in the electoral process.

On April 16, 2019, Yachay Tech University students participated in the electoral process for Student President and Vice-President in accordance with the Regulations for the Participation of the Institution’s Constituencies. The students who ran for President and Vice-president respectively were: For List 1, Alexander Escobar and Diana López, and for List 5, Cristhian Salas and Candy Herrera. The process was organized by the current Student Council with the support of the Registrar’s Department. The process started at 8:50 am and concluded at 5:00 p.m.
Three tables were set up for voting at different points of the university campus. Students voted through a digital voting registration system developed by the Registrar’s Department. This department was also responsible for the verification of the electoral roll and the ballot record with the Electoral Board that was formed by students.
The electoral roll included 1078 students, with optional vote. The participation rate in the electoral process was 73.93% (797 students). Votes were counted blank, null, in favor of List 1 and in favor of List 5. The results were as follows:
Blank votes: 21 (2.6%)
Null votes: 34 (4.3%)
List 1: 445 (55.8%)
List 5: 297 (37.3%)
With this result, once the ballot record was completed, Adrián Padilla, current student representative, declared List 1 as the winner: Alexander Escobar as President and Diana López as Vice-President. Finally, the current student representative thanked the participation of his classmates in the electoral process and highlighted the importance of student participation in the progress of the University. In that sense, he invited his colleagues to participate more actively in the activities and in the decision making through their new representatives.
Alexander Escobar and Diana Lopez will take office on April 22, 2019.
