Yachay Tech University, in its pursuit to continue with the institutionalization process, carried out the elections of representatives of the student body to the Higher University Council.
The electoral process was carried out normally in the established hours, following biosafety protocols and with the support of the National Electoral Council of Imbabura.
In this setting, Jeyson Patricio Alomoto Catota (main) and María Belén Terán Villegas (alternate), from the List “A”, “Yachay Tech Student Union Movement”, were elected as representatives to the Higher University Council of Yachay Tech with 465 votes. Together with their work team, they will be responsible for contributing to the institutionalization, autonomy and university accreditation processes.
José María Lalama, PhD., Rector and President of the Supervisory and Institutional Strengthening Commission (CIFI), thanked the Electoral Board for the execution of the democratic process and stated: “Dear university community, Deans, Electoral Board and students, we are so proud to know that after 7 years of institutional life, Yachay Tech takes another step and is already 66% into the institutionalization of the University. We are happy to have members democratically elected by the university community to represent them in the Higher University Council.”
“The students elected as representatives to the Higher University Council have a great responsibility, as they will have a voice and vote to contribute to the development of the University. They will be the ones who transmit the thoughts and feelings of their colleagues to argue, defend, and propose new ideas and directions for the future of Yachay Tech”, Lalama added.
Gema González, President of the Yachay Tech Electoral Board, thanked those involved in the process and pointed out that: “today is an extremely important day for the University, for its institutionalization, but also for our students, because you will have a voice and vote to bring your concerns and contributions to this great dream that is Yachay Tech. You are the main reason Yachay Tech lives for. Many challenges lie ahead. Your contribution is essential to accomplish this.”
Jeyson Patricio Alomoto Catota, elected representative, stated that: “Today we have achieved yet another requirement for our University to be institutionalized. We want to thank the students for their trust, we promise we will not disappoint you. Each one of your votes is one more reason not to give up. Let’s think about our academic achievements, Yachay is great because of its people and we are proud to belong to this University where knowledge is conveyed”.
Finally, the University authorities wished the new representatives the greatest success and ratified their commitment to Yachay Tech and the university community in building better days for the institution.
