Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI), a world-leading institution in scientific research, training, and educational outreach in fundamental theoretical physics, selected Cynthia Arias, a graduate of the School of Physical Sciences and Nanotechnology at Yachay Tech; as a fellow to be part of the Perimeter Scholars International (PSI) Master’s Program, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Cynthia is the only Ecuadorian amongst the 25 winners from around the world to participate in this research program. She is also part of the Water Y project, which is currently participating in the regional Hult Prize global competition.
Perimeter Scholars International (PSI), is an intensive 10-month master’s program that awards the degree of Master of Science in Physics issued by the University of Waterloo and a special diploma from the Perimeter Institute.
During her stay, she will have the possibility to share, interact and investigate with world-renowned physics professors; and at the same time, learn about topics such as advanced quantum, quantum field theory, general relativity, statistical physics, condensed matter, cosmology, particle physics, gravitation, string theory and quantum information, among others.
Cynthia says, “It is very exciting to be in a theoretical physics research group at a world-renowned institute. After completing this program, I want to pursue my PhD in the same place or in another country to continue in the world of academia and research. Yachay Tech offers us the ideal environment and tools to do great things. We have shown that we are capable of achieving what we set out to do”.
She adds that, “Yachay Tech prepares us for these kinds of challenges, thanks to our professors that show us a world of possibilities outside of Ecuador. I learned that all it takes is academic excellence and really wanting to be on the same level as other students in the world to win these opportunities. English proficiency is an essential factor; thinking and communicating in the universal language of science opens many doors for us internationally”.
PI is a research institute dedicated to the study of theoretical physics, with the highest levels of international excellence. Its studies are based on formal research, phenomenological orientation, mysteries of the universe, scientific advances, among others; creating outstanding educational and research opportunities for students around the world.
Cynthia will be traveling to Canada in September of this year to begin her master’s program and reinforce her knowledge in these branches of science.
