The workshops were held to celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
On Saturday, April 28, the Occupational Safety and Health Day is celebrated all over the world. For the United Nations, this is a day that allows for the promotion of healthy, decent, and safe work in favor of the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases. For this reason, Santiago Gallegos, the person responsible for occupational safety at Yachay Tech University, organized Training Days for the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. These workshops were held on April 24 and 25, 2018.
The conferences aim to keep the staff at Yachay Tech University prepared to prevent and act upon any type of incident that compromises the health and safety of the people who are in the campus facilities. The conference was addressed to brigade members and the university community in general. The event was attended by the Fire Department of Urcuquí, the Risk Management Secretariat and the team of health promoters of the University.
There were 3 theoretical-practical workshops in which attendees measured their knowledge and skills to mitigate risks. The first workshop evaluated fire prevention and suffocation and was supervised by the Fire Department of Urcuquí, while the second measured first aid action in emergencies, under the responsibility of the health promotion staff of Yachay Tech University. During the last workshop, given by the Secretariat of Risk Management, measures of self-protection and evacuation were discussed.
