In order to continue with the institutional strengthening process, the new representatives of the Yachay Tech Students Association AEYT were sworn in for the 2021-2022 period.
The electoral process began in May with the creation of the Electoral Board, which was composed of student representatives from the different Yachay Tech schools, a delegate from the Workers Association and one from the Professors Association, as observers.
After the Transitory Regulations for General Student Elections of the University Student Association and the documentation required for the qualification of candidacies were published, only one list met the requirements.
In this context, with 816 votes, María Belén Terán Villegas was elected as President (Biomedicine major), Jean Carlos Jiménez Castro, Vice President (Chemistry major), Jeyson Patricio Alomoto Catota, Secretary (Physics major), and Mayra Daniela Chicañan Ramos, Treasurer (Biology major), who will be responsible for continuing the internal activities of the AEYT, both in the academic and institutional framework.
José María Lalama, PhD., President of the Supervisory and Institutional Strengthening Commission (CIFI) and Rector of Yachay Tech, stated that: “we are proud of our students and congratulate the appointment of the new representatives. We appreciate and highlight the work done by Diana López’s team and the commitment to the University. Today, we take one more step to the long-awaited institutionalization of our university and we will continue working together hand in hand to carry out an academic space that can upraise Yachay. This is the beginning of a great finale; I wish you good luck”.
In this sense, the work plan of the new representatives aims to: “carry out appropriate monitoring of all processes that involve the well-being, consolidation, participation, and union of the academic community in order to generate social well-being, as well as to analyze the different problems in the university community to bring together all the constituencies and come to a solution through effective communication”.
Diana López, outgoing president, thanked the members of the Electoral Board, as well as the Rectorate for their help and good efforts in the process, which contributed to completing the process successfully.
López pointed out that the new team “will be an active part in the institutionalization process in administrative and academic issues concerning student scholarships, planning for in-person classes, cooperative work with other institutions and external organizations that are framed in the objectives of the AEYT, as well as the follow-up of social projects for students”.
María Belén Terán, President-elect, stated: “We joyfully begin this new stage in our university community, thanking the outgoing representatives for their management, as well as each of the people who believed in us. It is a great responsibility, but together as a Yachay Tech family we will overcome each challenge through solutions. We are open to dialogue and invite you to find out about the official channels of the University. Together we will achieve the change we need”.
Finally, the new representatives reiterated their gratitude and commitment to the university community to continue working for the academic and institutional development of Yachay Tech.
