During the visit, Max Planck’s representatives gave a seminar and analyzed collaboration possibilities
On June 21st. 2017, Yachay Tech received the visit of Max Planck representatives, including Dr. Wilhelm Boland, director of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology. During the visit, Max Planck representatives had a tour through campus, shared experiences with students and Dr. Bolad gave a seminar of Chemical Ecology.
After his doctorate in 1978 and his habilitation in 1986 at the University of Cologne, Dr. Boland was awarded a C3 professorship for Organic Chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe in 1987. From 1994 he was C4 professor for Bioorganic Chemistry at the University of Bonn. Since 1996 he has been Director and Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology and Head of the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry. In 1998, he was appointed honorary professor at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. In his research, Dr. Boland deals with the defense chemistry of leaf beetles. In addition to the development of new methods for analytical and synthetic chemistry, he also devotes himself to the mechanisms of the sequestration of plant metabolites by leaf beetle larvae and, in general, by the detoxification of plant metabolites in the intestine of insects.
The Max Planck Society has a worldwide reputation as a science and technology research organization. In 2006, the Times Higher Education Supplement rankings of non-university research institutions (based on the review of their international peers) ranked the Max Planck Society as the number 1 in scientific research and the number 3 in technological research worldwide.
