March for Science is a world movement that seeks to spread the Word and support science – publicly financed and disclosed – as a main pillar in human liberty and prosperity. This group is a diverse and non-partisan group led by very important activists such as Bill Nye, Beka Economopoulos, among others.
Here in Ecuador the march was to support growth in the investment in science and education; to unite all actors in science in Ecuador; and to support other marches happening around the world.
The meeting place was the Sala Capitular on Campus. The march headed out to Urcuquí and arrived at the Main Square, where people gathered to discuss why science is important for mankind.
The event was coordinated with the Local Government of Urcuquí (GAD). It will have a second stage, which will be the “Signos” event, organized by the Student Welfare Department of Yachay Tech University.
March for Science is a scientific-political movement that seeks to make the relationship between the government and science more functional. The movement hopes to build public policies that could benefit scientific research as a whole and a government that relies on knowledge and scientific research.
