In order to comply with the provisions of the Organic Law on Citizen Participation and Social Control, regarding rendering of accounts, Yachay Tech university shared with the community all the activities carried out and the milestones reached during 2021. Moreover, it announced its Accountability Report was available on the institutional website.
Yachay Tech was created by Law on December 16, 2013. Its goal is to train new generations of young leaders with technical knowledge, research skills, ethics, morals and critical thinking so they can contribute decisively to the national productive development.
In 2021, Yachay Tech expanded its academic offer with three new Master’s programs that abide by the principle of appropriateness and that will contribute to the research development of the country. The programs are: MS in Chemical Sciences, with a Minor in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, approved by the Higher Education Council (CES in Spanish), MS in Physics with a minor in Fundamental Physics, and MS in Artificial Intelligence.
As a result of the institutional management, aimed at fostering research projects by students and faculty at a national and international level, the University graduated its third and fourth cohort, with a total of 151 graduates.
The scientific production generated by faculty reached a total of 104 indexed publications in SCOPUS, thus making indexed publications one of the strengths of the University. In line with this, thanks to the collaboration of faculty members, students were able produce 21 indexed publications in SCOPUS. This shows the progress of the research culture that is developed at Yachay Tech.
Likewise, in 2021, the University promoted and approved the creation of 19 Research Projects, 5 of which were financed with external Grants. Also, 4 Research Groups were created with the aim of promoting and consolidating research with an impact on the Ecuadorian reality.
Diego Pérez, Ed. D., Rector of Yachay Tech and President of the Supervisory and Institutional Strengthening Commission (CIFI) highlighted during his speech that: “With 8 years of institutional life, Yachay Tech University has provided quality education to the Ecuadorian territory, maintaining institutional prestige”. He added that, during 2021, 523 scholarships and 8 financial aid were awarded to University students, exceeding the percentage established in the Organic Law of Higher Education.
Furthermore, 55 agreements were signed with public and private, local and international entities for inter-institutional cooperation, project execution, pre-professional practices and other matters of scientific and social interest.
Considering that the Institutionalization process was one of the most important objectives in 2021, 18 highly relevant actions were executed and completed with the support of the academic and administrative staff and students.
Finally, the Rector ended his speech by thanking the entire university community and stressed the importance of the collaboration of all those who make up Yachay Tech in the fulfillment of the objectives set for 2022 in order to project the university both nationally and internationally. He concluded his speech with the sentence: “Long live Yachay Tech!”
