The International Association of Sedimentologists has correspondants in over 50 countries
Jorge Toro, a faculty from the School of Geological Sciences and Engineering, was appointed as Ecuador´s correspondent for the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS). The correspondents are appointed by the President of the organization upon the recommendation of an academic bureau. This position will allow Jorge Toro to be part of a network of more than 50 countries that collaborate with sedimentology.
The IAS is a non-profit organization that has the purpose of publishing, discussing and comparing research results. It promotes the bilateral exchange of research among its members, mainly if they come from different countries. Finally, it promotes the integration of sedimentology with other disciplines. Currently, the IAS has around 2000 members from 100 different countries and correspondents in more than 50 countries.
Correspondents are appointed only for countries with more than five members in the organization, or those designated by the bureau. Correspondents have to inform the international community about the sedimentology activities carried out in their country, giving an international perspective to national research. In addition, they promote the access of new members in their countries.
This is an important achievement for the School of Geological Sciences and Engineering and for all of Yachay Tech. We congratulate Jorge for his accomplishment.
