The inauguration of the academic term for the first class of students in graduate programs took place at the former Hacienda San José. The main authorities of the university were in charge of welcoming 23 professionals from all over Ecuador who joined the university community as the first students of the graduate programs.
Carlos Reinoso, PhD., General Director of Graduate Studies, opened the event by thanking the authorities of the university, the academic staff and the different administrative units. “I want to give a warm welcome to the first class of Yachay Tech master’s candidates. Thank you for your trust; some of you are here for the first time and others already feel like family.”
Reinoso stated: “We are pleased to have you join this great family for the next two years. We are willing to work on your education and invite you to share knowledge as a weapon for life and that the ideas that result from dialectics, and a scientific, serene and reflective dialogue become exercises in the analysis of commitment and actions that involve the mind and heart”.
He ended his speech by saying: “The passion for what we do is our hallmark at Yachay Tech and we are confident that it will become a part of all of you as well.”
Diego Pérez Ed. D., Rector of Yachay Tech said: “It is a great honor for the institution to welcome you within this select group who constitute the first group of master’s candidates, which is a milestone reached within the challenges that we have established.” He highlighted the fact that the first class of graduate students has national representation from the different provinces of the country. He thanked the great work of the institution and especially the Deans of the Schools and the Coordinators of each program for creating high-quality master’s degrees.
Yachay Tech has research and professional master’s degrees. This first class is divided into the Master’s programs in Synthetic Biology with 9 students, the Master’s in Chemical Sciences with a Major in Materials Science and Engineering with 8 students and the Master’s in Applied Physics with a Major in Nanotechnology with 6 students. Of the 23 students, 20 of them were awarded the Fortalecete Scholarship supported by Senescyt, which demonstrates the quality and excellence of future master’s candidates.
The Rector ended his speech by saying: “You are part of Yachay Tech, of our history as an institution, I thus declare inaugurated the first cohort of Yachay Tech’s master’s programs.”
The graduate academic term begins on November 10, 2022 and ends on April 7, 2023 and comprises in-person classes and participation in research, innovation and technological development projects. During the master’s degree, students are expected to learn and deepen their knowledge in the different fields of science while acquiring specific skills for their development as future researchers or their employment in the different industrial sectors of the country.
With these actions Yachay Tech commits to the training of new professionals capable of contributing their knowledge to the development of the country.
