During the last two months the Student Welfare Coordination has carried out several activities in the campus in favor of Nonviolence.
“Orange the World” was the slogan with which UN Women started a campaign to remind us that Nonviolence against women is everyone’s responsibility. They did it to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, but this is a responsibility that we have each day. In that sense, the Student Welfare Coordination, in addition to daily actions, organizes and attends events to promote this behavior. However, the initiatives that we saw during November were especially important for the commemoration of this international day.
On November 14, 2017, a delegation from Yachay Tech, headed by Verónica Carchipulla from the Psychology Department of the university, attended a Panel on Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Institutions, organized by Senescyt. It aims to confront gender violence through the development of a joint strategy that reinforces prevention actions in higher education institutions in the country. It was held at the facilities of the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) at 5:00 p.m.
On November 28, 2017, the Student Welfare Coordination organized an event in the campus of Yachay Tech University in favor of Nonviolence against women. In this space the students could learn more about the history behind this commemoration and share more information about the problem of gender violence nowadays. In addition, they shared and burned papers with their experiences, representing a fresh start. This beginning would have the firm commitment of the fight against violence.
The Yachay Tech University, through the Student Welfare Coordination, is constantly fighting against gender violence and all types of violence, However, it mainly struggles through the daily actions of students, teachers and administrative staff.
