An award to science and hard work
Ernesto Medina, professor at the School of Physics and Nanotechnology of Yachay Tech University, was recently awarded for his work in scientific research and was appointed member of the Latin American Academy of Sciences – ACAL. The Academy is composed of members who are researchers recognized for their contributions to knowledge; and they are proposed and nominated by other members. Therefore, being appointed as a member is an important recognition to their academic careers.
Ernesto Medina is from Venezuela, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Physics. Then, he got his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a theoretical physicist and works in statistical physics. He studied tolls for statistical physics to understand conduction problems in insulating materials. He published a series of articles on this topic and returned to Venezuela where he worked in the oil industry studying transport problems in porous media. He was also a visiting professor at Rochester University, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and the University of Barcelona in Spain. He was also elected member of Sigma Xi Society, one of the scientific research honor societies of the US.
Paola Ayala, Dean of the School of Physics and Nanotechnology of the University, gave a congratulatory message to Ernesto for his work and his recognition from the ACAL:

ACAL develops ongoing evaluation programs of the research potential of Latin America and the Caribbean and the formation of regional research networks. It currently has 222 members from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The Academy also has members in Germany, United States, and France.
