Xavier Torres president of CONADIS, gave a sensibilisation talk in the field of discapacity
Xavier Torres gave a talk called “Sensibilisation in the field of disabilities” directed to the whole university community. The talk had place at 12:30 PM on July 19th, 2017 in Yachay Tech’s library, Urcuquí, Imbabura. Before the conference, Carlos Castillo-Chávez, the university’s rector, and Victor Aguilar, director of infrastructure, also spoke about the adaptation process needed for Yachay Tech to become an inclusive institution.
During the talk, Xavier Torres discussed the field of disabilities from the perspective of discrimination hidden behind daily activities. The automatic expressions and the lack of reflection in the construction of educational inclusive spaces. “Making access ramps isn’t enough” where the words Torres used to express that inclusive institutions are built over education and communication initiatives more than just infrastructure design.
Additionally, in the frame of the conference, Victor Aguilar resumed the technical inspection CONADIS made to Yachay Tech on July the 18th, 2017. The infrastructure director mentioned that despite Yachay Tech University counts with many facilities, it can’t be considered an inclusive institution yet. This is why he and Castillo-Chavez reassured their commitment to making Yachay Tech an inclusive institution.
