The Yachay Tech campus was home to the formal ceremony to commemorate the 8th anniversary of creation of the University, with the presence of its main authorities, students, academic staff, administrative staff and guests who are part of the university community.
José María Lalama, Rector and President of the Supervisory and Institutional Strengthening Commission for Yachay Tech, highlighted the different accomplishments of these eight years of educational management and stressed the importance of continuing the different projects developed by the university to create better conditions and opportunities for UITEY students, administrative and teaching staff.
The Rector highlighted how the University has taken part in the improvement of research in the country through the production of science and innovation to generate new knowledge, as well as the success achieved by the different cohorts of students locally and abroad, as seen in the number of publications and graduates entering the world’s best universities for graduate programs.
Currently, Yachay Tech has 1153 undergraduate students and 332 leveling students distributed in its 6 schools, 10 undergraduate programs. In addition, it offers 7 graduate programs. In the 8 years of institutional life, the university has graduated 61 students from the first cohort, 110 from the second, 84 from the third, and 118 from the fourth cohort.
In terms of research management, 930 publications have been made in SCOPUS, of which 170 are by students as authors and co-authors. This places the university as one of the best higher education institutions in scientific production in just 8 years. Yachay Tech also ranks first in Ecuador in the Nature Index ranking and eighth in the Scimago Institutions Ranking.
Finally, the rector highlighted the progress of 61% of the intervention process through the 5 actions of the intervention plan. The election of the faculty member to the Higher University Council and the election of the highest authorities are the only two processes still pending. This shows an 84% of institutional strengthening in action areas of the intervention plan.
During the event, a special recognition was made to the members of the university community who have worked since the beginning of Yachay Tech and have taken part in the growth of the university during these 8 years of institutional life.
