The rector of Yachay Tech University was invited as distinguished alumni
Carlos Castillo-Chavez, Rector of Yachay Tech University, was invited to give a speech to the latest generation of graduates from his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. Castillo Chavez, distinguished alumni of this institution, gave his lecture to more than 600 engineering and master’s graduates, who were accompanied by their families, friends, and University authorities. The event was held on the Stevens Point campus on December 16, 2017.
During his speech Carlos gave an example of his own experience as a student at Stevens Point, and he highlighted the work of the authorities and faculty of his alma mater in the education of the students who celebrated their graduation. He addressed the fundamental values that the Institution instilled in him as a professional: accessibility, excellence, and impact. These virtues helped Castillo-Chávez focus his work to serve others and especially minorities.
For Yachay Tech University, it is essential to have an academic authority that aside from receiving wide recognition in his field, values work focused on minorities as an important part of academic work. This is an opportunity not only for our University but for all the actors of the Higher Education System of Ecuador to create strategies that enhance the development of young Ecuadorians in the field of research.
We Congratulate Carlos for this public recognition given by the institution who saw his outstanding academic career begin.
