Silvia Salgado, Marcelo Simbaña, José Chalá, and Diego García, assembly members for Imbabura, and the chair of the International Affairs Commission, Esther Cuesta, visited Yachay Tech University on January 18, 2019. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the University’s achievements, projects, and needs. During the visit, they inspected the campus facilities and held meetings with Yachay Tech authorities and students.
During the campus tour, the guests got to see the University’s teaching and research laboratories, specifically the microtomography and nanofabrication laboratories. Additionally, the assembly members and their teams visited the library, classrooms and residential areas of the University. They also visited one of the unfinished buildings that the institution needs to improve its operation. Eduardo V. Ludeña, Ph.D., Rector of Yachay Tech led the campus tour.
After the tour, they held a meeting with University authorities and student representatives where they got a deeper explanation about research, development of academic programs, the students’ learning process, student mobility programs, internships, and scholarships. In addition, they had the opportunity to listen to speeches given by Jordy Cevallos, student representative, Doménica Garzón and Joshua Salazar, both Yachay Tech students who obtained international scholarships through community liaison projects. In addition, they discussed topics related to the current structure of the institution, the current situation, different perspectives, and other internal aspects of the institution.
Finally, Silvia Salgado, Marcelo Simbaña, José Chalá, and Diego García, all Assembly members for Imbabura, agreed to sign a support letter for Yachay Tech, as they see it as a strategic project for the development of the province. In the same way, Esther Cuesta showed her support for the project and her intention to work together in the internationalization area.
