Yachay Tech University celebrated its 7th Anniversary with a commemorative event held virtually, attended by local authorities, faculty and officials from the university community.
Hermann Mena, Ph.D., Rector of Yachay Tech, highlighted the work done to give continuity to the humanistic and research project and thanked the university community , as their work allows the University to welcome the most talented students in the country.
The Rector stated that: “firm decisions have been made without affecting the mission and vision of the University. Today, Yachay Tech is known for its academic achievements and research networks; a University that builds solutions for the development of the country and that exercises its autonomy in a responsible manner. We reiterate our commitment to the present and future of higher education in the country. Our horizon is dynamic, we have strengthened our regulations to maintain an investigative culture, with which we will deliver our third cohort of graduates. Yachay Tech is no longer a project, it is a University, the cradle of scientists from all over the country”.
During the event, it was indicated that the University is expanding its academic offer with the creation of the Computing and Materials majors, the redesign of the Geology major, and the approval of the Master’s Degree in Applied Physics with a mention in Nanotechnology and a Master’s Degree in Synthetic Biology, by the Higher Education Council, CES.
Currently, the Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Master’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, mention in Medical Chemistry and mention in Science and Engineering, and the Master’s Degree in Geosciences are undergoing the approval process by CES.
The authorities highlighted that 51 inter-institutional cooperation agreements have been signed with public and private entities during this administration, all for the execution of projects, pre-professional practices and other topics of interest to the University. It is important to stress that the University has made 352 scientific publications in SCOPUS (2019 – 2020).
It was highlighted that the entity is under permanent transformation and growth, which can be evidenced in the graduation of the 61 students from the first cohort, 110 from the second cohort and 86, still in process, from the third cohort.
Finally, the Rector stressed that it is the duty of the academy to serve citizens. This way, authorities, academic and administrative staff and students have joined forces, which have enabled the Board of Trustees to approve 15 regulations for the proper functioning of the University.
