Yachay Tech will lead the Andean Sustainable Development Network (SDSN-Andes), which was officially presented during the beginning and development of the International Conference on Sustainable Development held at the UNASUR headquarters on June 29 and 30.
Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN), inaugurated the Andean chapter of the Network and highlighted the great challenges of Latin America, as it is a Region that needs more technological innovation and still represents a small proportion in science and engineering, especially in patents and intellectual property.
In this context, Sachs stressed the importance of the University that will lead the Andean Network emphasizing that
“Yachay Tech is part of the vision to change this reality and has a strategic role as a research center in the region.”
The new Andean Network is part of the United Nations-led Network of Sustainable Development Solutions, whose specific objectives are to assist in understanding sustainable development issues in the region and to contribute to the Sustainable Development Objectives agenda ( ODS) of the United Nations; Promote initiatives for solutions that contribute to sustainability in the Andean region among governments, civil society, multilateral agencies and academia; To promote forums and spaces for discussion so that various sectors of society dialogue and find viable solutions to the problems of the region; And promote sustainable development in academic higher education programs to empower future leaders.
