Electrosynthesis has been considered as a promising method in organic chemistry to carry out redox reactions in a sustainable way. The possibility of using electrons instead of a chemical redox regent has opened the door to a novel way of making redox organic transformations diminishing the impact to our environment. In this way, at least 9 principles of green chemistry are covered by electrosynthesis. In this course we will explain the different aspects that make organic electrosynthesis a green method as well as the basic principles of electrochemistry and techniques that are used in this methodology applied to organic synthesis.
