Jürgen Viktor Kurt Reichardt, Ph.D.

President

Juergen Reichardt has coauthored almost 150 peer-reviewed publications with some 4,600 citations. Furthermore, he has held uninterrupted external funding for some 20 years on two continents. He also serves on the Council of HuGO, the Human Genome Organization, the International Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC) of the Human Variome Project (HVP) and the Scientific Advisory Council of the Golden Helix Foundation. Juergen has coorganized various international meetings, incl. the HGM 2012 (Human Genome Meeting 2012 in Sydney; Australia) and a series of PacRim Breast and Prostate Cancer Meetings in 3 different countries, he was a visiting professor at many universities, incl. Rome in 2013 and serves also on ten international editorial boards.
Finally, he has lived in seven countries on four continents bringing a truly international perspective to his endeavors.

María Cristina Guamán Burneo, MSc.

She has a Degree in Biological Sciences from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. She obtained her master’s degree in Biological Sciences, with a minor in Industrial Microbiology at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerias, in agreement with the Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Her research is based on the use of microorganisms for biotechnological purposes, including the sustainable use of biodiversity. She discovered the first microorganism from Galapagos (Cyberlindnera galapagoensis), capable of fermenting sugarcane bagasse to xylitol. She directed the Energy Biotechnology Laboratory of the Quito Electric Company and the Energy Research Corporation with projects on bioremediation, biofuels and biodiversity under her charge. Currently, she is a full-time research professor at Universidad de Las Américas, focusing her experimentation on freshwater microalgae, their identification and biotechnological applications.

José Luis Zambrano Mendoza, Ph.D.

Agricultural Engineer, graduated from Escuela Politécnica del Ejército – ESPE – IASA. He completed his Master’s Degree in Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources at “Wageningen University” and obtained his PhD from the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, from The Ohio State University, in the Genetics and Plant Breeding Specialization. During his professional career he has developed two varieties of Amilaceous corn for the Ecuadorian highlands and a corn hybrid for the coastal region of the country. He has also directed several projects on genetic resistance to pests and nutritional quality of corn. His main scientific publications are related to studies of genetic resistance to viral diseases. He was Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding in IASA II (Headquarters Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas) and Director of Research of the National Institute of Agricultural Research – INIAP. He is currently Principal Investigator of the Maize Program at the Santa Catalina Experimental Station of INIAP.
