We plan to establish a national Ecuadorian Genetics and Genomics Network (ReGG in Spanish) that could develop into a broader Latin American effort in due time. The overall goal of ReGG is to foster interaction and stimulate research, specifically around genetics and genomics nationally, that can benefit basic and applied science producing new knowledge, technology for the country’s need and applications ranging from agriculture to medicine. The proposed network will establish a national consensus and open forum for the Ecuadorian genetics and genomics research community that could develop into a broader Latin American effort in due time contributing especially to the Andean region and beyond.
Therefore, we propose to investigate the following eight specific aims:
To document the state of genetics and genomics in Ecuador.
To promote and develop knowledge in the fields of genetics and genomics and its applications in Ecuador.
To share equipment, technology and expertise among active genetics and genomics researchers in Ecuador.
To exchange new ideas and foster collaboration especially in an interdisciplinary setting.
To hold an annual scientific national meeting to share ideas and exchange experiences within Ecuador and with international participants.
To establish relevant relations with other important organizations nationally and internationally.
To inquire about the implementation of professional training courses on genetics and genomics.
To develop joint grants that support research based on genetics and genomics.
In addition, on June 19, 2018 the ReGG was accredited as a research network by the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation SENESCYT, with registration number REG-RED-18-0003
