The ranking rates international papers by institution, country and region.

In spite of being only 3 years old and having master and Ph.D. degrees in contruction, Yachay Tech University is third in Ecuador in the Nature Index Ranking. The ranking is based in the number of publications that researchers affiliated to a certain institution do in 68 high-quality science journals; plus 2 evaluation indexes related to the collaboration for each paper.

The Nature Index is a database of author affiliation information collated from research articles published in an independently selected group of 68 high-quality science journals. The data base provides index intended to be one of a number of metrics to assess research excellence and institutional performance.

Each year, the information gathered by the database is organized and characterized by institution, country and region creating a research ranking based on different criteria. Specifically 3:

• The first one is AC (Article Count), just the simple count of the papers published in one of the 68 journals.
• The second one is FC (Fractional Count) is a fractional count that takes into account the percentage of authors from the institution in each paper.
• The third one is WFC (Weighted Fractional Count) is the same as FC but with the papers in specialized journals of astronomy and astrophysics have been down weighted.

This year, Yachay Tech shares podium with Escuela Politécnica Nacional, with more than 140 years, and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, with more than 70 years, both highly excellent institutions. This achievement is for every faculty, student and staff of Yachay Tech University and for the improvement of research in Ecuador.
