TWO YOUNG ECUADORIANS ARE PART OF POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAMS IN GERMANY AND FRANCE

Domenica Bermeo, Nanotechnology major and Adrián Padilla, Mathematics major at Yachay Tech University, will study important graduate degrees in Germany and France.

Domenica is one of the students who will soon be graduating as a Nanotechnology Engineer. Thanks to her training at Yachay Tech, she got to conduct a research stay in 2019 at the Free University of Berlin and participate at the Hult Prize competition in United Kingdom.

Domenica says, “My interest in studying in Germany is based on their high-level research. I found out about the program, applied and was chosen to be awarded a scholarship for the Master in Photonics at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (https://www.asp.uni-jena.de/)”.

The two-year program will allow her to learn about photonics (the science of light) and the generation of photons: their control and their detection; as well as optics that studies the behavior and properties of Nanobiophotonic light, a recent branch of research that proposes new biological applications thanks to the handling of light at the nanometric level. Doménica mentioned that efficient nanobiosensors can be made to improve diagnostic practices and, thanks to optics, molecular interactions in cells can also be understood, among other applications.

Her objective is to specialize in Nanobiophotonics to improve diagnostic techniques in hospitals, as well as develop sensors or develop X-ray equipment and microscopes, among other optical devices, as this technology is generally imported from Ecuador.

On the other hand, Adrián Padilla obtained a scholarship for academic excellence in Sophie Germain of the Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard, located in the Paris-Saclay science and technology cluster in France, to do a master degree (http: //www.shanghairanking .com / Shanghairanking-Subject-Rankings / mathematics.html).

He has received a Scholarship for Academic Excellence at Yachay Tech from 2017 to 2021 and been recognized as one of the Best Undergraduate Research Students 2020, by the Vice Chancellery of Research and Innovation.

“I learned about this scholarship program through a call posted by the Amarun Association of Ecuadorian Mathematicians. I applied and received the notification that I was selected in the first call, among hundreds of applicants around the world,” said Adrián.

Padilla will start his master’s degree in Mathematics and Applications in September 2021 at the Université de Paris-Saclay, a leader in mathematics among study centers around the world, according to the ARWU 2020 academic excellence ranking (Shanghai Ranking ).

Both Doménica and Adrián stated that Yachay Tech has provided them with the necessary tools to be elite students at an international level, with an excellent command of English and experience in international laboratories, participation in world conferences and scientific publications.
