Mathematicians meet in Colombia

The Rector of Yachay Tech University led one of the main speeches

Carlos Castillo-Chávez, rector of Yachay Tech University, gave one of the main speeches in the XI Congreso Colombiano de Métodos Numéricos (XI Colombian Congress of Numerical Methods). The congress was held in Universidad Industrial de Santander, in Bucaramanga on August 16, 17 y 18 of 2017. It was an academic event that aims to expose, debate and acquire knowledge about the evolution and development of numerical methods as well as its different areas of application.

Carlos Castillo-Chávez spoke along with J.N. Reddy (Texas A&M University, EE.UU.), and Enrique Zuazua (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain), two of the most important mathematicians of the world in the field of applied mechanics, and 3 other renowned speakers. The agenda had different kind of talks, short speeches, posters sessions, and several other short workshops for participants, with the aim of opening a sharing space. Carlos Castillo Chávez talk was related to mathematics applied to social and natural sciences.
